#AtoZChallenge – Crazy For Cookbooks

This month we’ve taken on a challenge – one that involves blogging through the alphabet. Our theme for the challenge is food and today we’ll talk about our favorite cookbooks.

Do we still need cookbooks? Sites after sites list recipes but none of them seem to list them in ways where you can try new types of meals.  You pretty much need to search for specific items so you semi know what you are going to get but with a good old fashioned cookbook you can easily browse and certain recipes may just stand out and make you want to try them.

Taste of Home cookbooks

We love pretty much any of the Taste of Home cookbooks. We find at least a few new recipes out of every annual edition they release and they do include lots of pictures of the meals so it can be eye catching but we still relay on our old Joy of Cooking and Better Homes And Gardens cookbooks too.

Several sites exist to create your own cookbook which can be a fun creative project and makes a nice gift to give but the biggest thing you need is a recipe manager so you can keep track of your favorite recipes.  The Recipe Manager and Big Oven make some very easy to use managers.

Any cajun creole cookbook is my favorite. I do collect all cookbooks though and lately have gotten some great recipes from the Food network on line.

I search online for recipes all the time, but I still love cookbooks. Some of my favorite the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook, Simply Delicious Food, Morning, Noon, and Night,Everyone Eats Well in Belgium, and the Pie and Pastry Bible. While I’ve had some of these for years, I still I love to hold them in my hands and browse them.

I used to have about ten cookbooks that I received when I moved out and got married. But there were only three I kept going to time and time again. So finally I donated the other cookbooks I wasn’t using. I knew there are people out there who would like to use them!

My favorite cookbooks are Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook, Better Homes and Gardens Simple Slow Cooker Recipes and Betty Crocker’s Cooking Basics. BH&G New Cookbook is my absolute #1 favorite, though!

Happy A to Z and happy cooking!!

We have a BH&G New Cookbook that my mom gave us. It’s an older cookbook with tasty recipes that are pretty simple to make. We love old cookbooks because they tend to use fresh ingredients over can or box.

Hi Tim and Angi, I have to recommend this site to you. http://www.gojee.com. You can select specific ingredients and find a whole list of recipes with that ingredient in them, or the other way round and find a list of recipes without a specific ingredient in them! Hope it’s helpful for you!

This is me, Duncan D. Horne, visiting you from the A-Z challenge, wishing you all the best throughout April and beyond.
