#AtoZChallenge – X Number Of….

This month we’ve taken on a challenge – one that involves blogging through the alphabet. Our theme for the challenge is food. I’ll teach you how to increase or decrease a recipe by using Google’s conversion calculator.

Calculator

You find a special recipe your family will devour in a heart beat. The only problem – the recipe is too small or too large for your needs. Sometimes it’s easy to double a recipe where ones become twos and twos become four. But what if you weren’t all that great with fractions. Does 1/2 teaspoon doubled mean 1/4 or 1 teaspoon?

I found – quite by accident – that Google search will help you with all those number conversions.

How many teaspoons in a tablespoon? How many cups in a quart? Quarts in a liter?

I go in to more detail about using Google for conversions so I’m only going to recap the basics.

Enter this in Google and see what it tells you:

1/2 tsp * 2 = ? tsp
1 US teaspoon

1 tbsp = ? tsp
3 US teaspoons

1 quart = ? cups
4 US cups

1 liter = ? quarts
1.05668821 US quarts

Now if a recipe calls for one cup of an ingredient and makes 12 servings, how much of the ingredient do I need for 6 servings? 8 servings? 20 servings? 1 serving? Check your answer and see more about Google conversions here.
