Last year, we told you about a book series called Vampire Academy. We reviewed each of the six books and at the end of the series, we said it would make a fantastic movie. We got our wish because on Valentine’s Day 2014, the movie based on the first book in the best vampire book series I’ve read will open and I plan on being there.

Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, half human-half vampire, a guardian of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discreetly within our world. Her calling is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi.
Two races of vampires walk our world. The Moroi are alive and wield elemental magical, while the Strigoi are undead and evil–feeding on the innocent to survive. Rose Hathaway–a half-vampire with poor impulse control–is training to be a bodyguard for a Moroi princess. Learning to decapitate and stake is hard enough, but Rose’s real danger may lie in an illicit romance with one of her instructors…

But I don’t like vampire stories?
This isn’t like the triangle love vampire-human-werewolf story by that other author. It’s more akin to the wizard fighting the guy who shall not be named type of story. A bunch of teens who must overcome an evil entity in order to survive high school.
If you haven’t read the books, you better get a move on it because once you’ve read the first one, you’ll want to read the entire series. And then you’ll want to read the series spin-off, Bloodlines.
