Bye Bye Microsoft, Hello Ubuntu!

Ubuntu LogoWe have slowly converted every desktop and laptop in our home to Ubuntu 12.10 over the last few weeks. While some of our programs remained the same, we’ve spent many days trying out new programs to replace others. Firefox has remained our primary browser with Chrome as a secondary option. Some of the Adobe suite programs are not available for Linux systems so I’m testing GIMP, Inkscape, and Bluefish.

Now our biggest problem is an email program that is robust enough to handle our multitude of accounts with an integrated calendar and contact list. Right now we’re using Evolution but it’s crashed a few times and caused a few other problems so I’m not sure if it’s the right program for us.

Next on my program list is a social media manager. I never found a Windows version that meet my needs so I’m hoping Linux has a better solution. But for now, I’m using TweetDeck in Chrome and I’m still wondering why social media managers rarely seem to use Facebook lists in the same fashion as Twitter lists?

What are your favorite Linux programs?
