Thursday Thirteen – Organization Tools

Organization has been a big part of this week around our house. We’ve cleared out the boys’ closet and the office closet and put in a variety of organizational items to make the closets functional. So, I thought I would list thirteen items that we use around our house to help maintain organization.

  1. ClosetMaid Pantry Cabinet – One for a pantry and one for DVD/VHS storage. Yes, we still have a few VHS tapes around the house.
  2. ClosetMaid Horizontal Closet Organizer – Stacked 5 high to store shipping boxes and envelopes of various sizes.
  3. Wire Storage Cubes (primary colors and white) – For toy and clothing storage.
  4. Hanging Closet Organizer – For the boys to keep their shoes and whatever else they decide is closet worthy.
  5. 3M Command Hooks – Hangs almost everything that goes on walls.
  6. Storage Totes (various sizes) – In the garage for storing holiday decor and stuff we want to save.
  7. Plastic bins (various sizes) – To keep related items together.
  8. Toy Organizer and Storage Bins – Helps keep the kids toys organized yet in view.
  9. Shipping boxes (reusing the ones we get) – Garaged items again.
  10. Light Storage Reels – These work wonders to keep our Christmas lights and various extension cords nicely organized.
  11. Bookcases (2, 3, or 5 shelves) – Hold everything from books (duh!) to photos boxes to art supplies.
  12. Sheet Protectors – We use these as wipe-able boards for everything from weekly menu to the kids’ school folders.
  13. Calendars – To prevent double booking and maintains the kids activities.

Angi grew up in southern Arizona but now lives in central New Mexico with her husband, two sons and three dogs. She creates, she responds to Yoast support requests, and she loves to ramble on about anything. When not doing those, she can be found curled up with a good book or watching any one of her favorite TV shows, movies, or an American football game.

#10 Light Storage Reels. We wrap extension cords, Christmas/holiday lights, and garland around the storage reels to prevent tangled cords. I have storage totes for each holiday and I put the lights on a storage reel and put the storage reel inside the tote.

#12 Sheet Protectors. I printed out a blank weekly menu and put it inside a sheet protector. It is hanging next to the fridge. I decide what we’re having for lunch and dinner all week and write it down using white board markers. I wipe it clean once a week and plan the next week’s meals. I also use them inside the boys’ school folders. I print out mazes, games, coloring sheets, word searches, tracing sheets, and more. I put them in the sheet protectors and the boys use thin line white board markers to complete the sheet. They can wipe the pages clean and reuse them over and over again. You can read more about them here.

I’m a recent “Thursday 13” participant. My posts have just been nonsense so far. However, your post was VERY helpful this week. As a recent SAHM, I’m trying to become more organized! Thanks for your tips! I love the idea of #10!!!! Also, could you go into more detail about how you use #12?

Thanks!
