Our Cabinet

Selection of alcohol bottles on shelves on display in liquor cabinet

We don’t keep a large liquor cabinet and are not big drinkers but we do have our preferences for when we do drink or if we use liquor in a mixed cocktail or cooking.

Let’s start with what we use almost exclusively for cooking: wine. Wine does not do it for either of us, but it you can really make some great foods with it, such as Shepherds Pie or Beef Bourguignon.

Karen Birmingham Zinfindel is our go-to wine for cooking.

Vodka would be next on that list. We probably also use it more for cooking than drinking, and for that,t we go with Skyy Vodka.

Beer is used in a few dishes but mainly for drinking. Nothing is like drinking iced-cold Sol Cerveza.

Buchanan’s DeLuxe would feel like a waste to do anything but drink it.

The Kraken Rum is interesting. It is nice to have a sip of or mix it with some Pepsi occasionally, but it gets old. It is just something to have for variety.

1800 Tequila has so many uses and is nice to make cocktails with or just to take a shot of if that is your thing, but it is so good that it would be a waste, so sip it.

Now, the final item is in our cabinet. Whiskey. Jack Daniel’s is for mixing and cooking, and Maker’s Mark is for if we want to enjoy it neatly or for mixing in fine cocktails.
