The Hunger Games has hit the box office by storm and is the fourth young adult series to take over Cinema within the past decade. With the Harry Potter series finished now and Twilight will be shortly it seems like it may be time for another one. And I cant think of a better series than the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.
Vampire Academy has a very strong female lead that is anything but passive and that is something that made Hunger Games stand out and we still need to see more of. The book series on its own has done very well which is always a good indicator for a movie franchise.
Preger Entertainment has already secured the right for a Vampire Academy movie. I feel they need to sell the franchise to either a larger studio that can truly spend the amount of money needed to make the movie right or sell it to a television studio. I may be in the minority on this one but maybe a movie franchise is not the way to go but it can be a television series for HBO or Showtime. It would have to be on a premium cable network as I don’t think it would success on network or even basic cable. It could easily become a six season series with each book being spread out over a short season, maybe 8 episodes.
