Lasagna

I know last week I said I’d share the pot roast recipe but we had to run into town last minute that night so it’s been rescheduled for this week so next week that recipe will be featured.

Lasagna is a very customizable recipe but the basic steps are always the same. Layer noodles, pasta sauce, and cheese. Usually 3 or 4 layers high and then bake.

Our recipe is no different. It’s a modified version of the recipe that used to be on the back of the American Beauty brand of lasagna noodles.

Lasagna Steps

Lasagna

Nothing like a homemade lasagna. Your favorite pasta sauce, with or without meat, blends perfectly with the creamy ricotta mixture.

  • 26 oz pasta sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Ricotta Mixture

  • 32 oz ricotta
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon Morton Nature’s Seasons Seasoning Blend
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cook noodles as directed on package.

Make sauce

  • While noodles are cooking, saute onion, bell pepper and minced garlic in a medium sauce pan. Add ground beef. Cook until brown. Season ground beef with salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and season all. Stir pasta sauce into ground beef. Simmer 5-10 minutes.

Make ricotta mixture

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine ricotta, season all, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, Parmesan, and 2 tbsps of mozzarella cheese. Stir in beaten egg until well combined.

Make Lasagna

  • In a casserole dish, lay 3 lasagna noodles. Cover with 1/3 of the ricotta cheese, 1/3 of the sauce, and 1/3 of the remaining mozzarella cheese. Repeat to create 3 layers in the pan.
  • Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • Cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
