This month we’ve taken on a challenge – one that involves blogging through the alphabet. Did you miss a letter? Catch up now.
The term “organic” refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed. Specific requirements must be met and maintained in order for products to be labeled as “organic”. Organic crops must be grown in safe soil, have no modifications, and must remain separate from conventional products. Farmers are not allowed to use synthetic pesticides, bio-engineered genes (GMOs), petroleum-based fertilizers, and sewage sludge-based fertilizers.
Organic foods are the most strictly controlled foods for any substances that may be harmful that is because to be organic it has to be virtually only the item itself without anything added. Organic livestock must have access to the outdoors and be given organic feed. They may not be given antibiotics, growth hormones, or any animal-by-products. Organic food also tends to be fresher compared to food with pesticides on them because it cant sit in a warehouse waiting to be shipped out. Because it is fresher it tastes better.
As far as meats go Little T is very sensitive to growth hormone or a process used with that. An example is milk. When he was younger we thought he had a dairy allergy because after drinking milk or cheese he would get diarrhea but we ended up finding out with growth hormone free dairy he was fine. He was on soy for about a year before we figured that out. If we put him on regular growth hormone dairy now he still gets diarrhea.
